Fener
The Byzantian splendor on the Golden Horn

A visit out of the commun in the district of Fener (Phanar), the symbol of the Eastern church’s power. Since 1453 this district is the stronghold of the Byzantian orthodox Church. Still today, the Patriarch rules more than 250 millions of orthodox on all around the world.

The same time, Fener was the district where the Byzantian bourgeoisie were living at the Ottoman Empire, like the princes of Walachia, Moldavia (Moldova) and Samos.

The excursion ends after a visit in the the church of St Savior in Chora (museum) known for its exceptional mosaics, where we arrive by traversing Balat, the old Jewish district.
