St. Sophia, Basilica cistern and Blue mosque

The three monuments which should not to be missed at the first visit to the city. As they are so close to each other it is possible to make this excursion in a half day only. The displacement from one monument to another is by foot through the park where the famous Hippodrome square was.

St.Sophia is a Byzantine construction dates from 532 and the Basilica cistern is back to the Vth century. These two monuments show us the level of the Byzantines knowledge.

More than 1000 years later, the Sultan Ahmet II decided to build the Blue mosque in a particular style, just opposite to the old St. Sophia
