Whirling Dervish Ceremony Tour
| Interested in
learning more about Rumi ? What a better way to learn
about Sufism than by actually seeing a Whirling Dervish
ceremony ! Every Monday night a Whirling Dervish ceremony
at a little Monastery located in Istanbul-Fatih, (near
the VEFA football stadium) gives the intrigued visitor an
once in a life time opportunity to see an unique
religious ritual. It must be stressed that this is not a
tourist attraction or theatrical dance performance, but
rather a religious ceremony between believers and
their selective guests. Sufi music is considered to be unique because of its combination of synchronized hums with prayers--helping the Whirling Dervishes to achieve pure religious ecstasy. |

The actual ceremony starts about 21 o'clock winter time, however
guests are to meet at the Les Arts Turcs Gallery, located in
Sultanahmet (In front of Hagia Sophia), one hour before the
ceremony to ensure a timely arrival. The cost is 25 per person, which
includes guide(s) little speech about Sufism and
sufis in Turkey, their life at Gallery Les Arts Turcs
and round trip transportation to and from the ceremony. You do
not pay for Ceremony. Ceremony is free.
Women are reminded to dress conservatively, covering both arms
and legs. Men are advised not to wear shorts. These requests are
rules of the monastery. When in Rome do as the Romans do !
Impress your friends by bragging about your new cultured
experience !
Note: photo and video cameras are not permitted.
